Microwave radiation from cell phone towers may have caused Senator Kennedy's seizure at President Obama's inauguration

On Jan 20th, 2009, I was at home watching the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama on CNN. A reporter for the cable news network stated the cell phone companies were installing several additional temporary cell phone towers to handle the wireless phone demands of over 3 million visitors and tourists at the inauguration.

At that time I was completing an article on the hazards of microwave radiation from cell phone towers for the previous issue of this Journal of Immunity and the thought occurred to me that if everyone uses their cell phone at the same time, Washington DC could be cooking for a while.

In the last issue of this journal, we published photographs done in Germany that show the effects of microwave radiation on red blood cells taken from a capillary of a person who used a cell phone for just 90 seconds. The before photo show normal cells round and dispersed while the after photos shows the red blood cells aggregating and clumping together. It took 40 minutes for the blood cells to return to normal.

The red blood cells clumping together would have impaired their ability to carry and deliver oxygen to the cells. This could cause either headaches or fatigue in some individuals. It is also significant that a cell phone tower could emit hundreds of times more microwave radiation than an individual battery operated cell phone.

Doctors who examined Senator Kennedy after his seizure blamed it on fatigue. The unanswered question is: Was the fatigue brought on by the Senator's red blood cells clumping together that resulted from his exposure to high levels of microwave radiation? This radiation would most likely have been at its peak at the time of the post inaugural luncheon when hundreds of thousands of people would have been on their cell phones following the inaugural address.

News coverage of the inaugural speech was followed by the post inaugural luncheon attended by the President and invited guests. CNN reported that as the luncheon got underway, Senator Kennedy had a seizure and was taken to a local hospital for an examination. They also reported that Senator Byrd was upset by what happened to Senator Kennedy and left the luncheon and returned to the Senate Office Building.

CNN also reported that about the same time one person at the inauguration died from a heart attack. As I watched these events unfold on TV, a passing thought occurred - is Washington DC under a terrorist attack of sorts? Have a million tourists set off a dirty bomb by all using their cell phones at the same time to send text, voice mail and pictures to their friends?

Imagine a million or more people talking and texting on their cell phones at the same time in the same vicinity. This could increase the level of microwave radiation from cell phone towers to such a degree that it might cause a heart attack in one person and a seizure in another person who was already in poor heath like Senator Edward Kennedy.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Senator Edward Kennedy was recovering after having the seizure at the post inaugural luncheon. The AP stated:

"WASHINGTON -- Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., was awake and "feeling well" Tuesday evening after suffering a seizure during a post-inaugural luncheon in honor of President Obama, said a physician who treated him.

Kennedy, who has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments since having surgery for brain cancer last June, was rushed from the Capitol by ambulance after he began shaking and convulsing at the luncheon, according to lawmakers and Senate staff members who were present. He was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where doctors said they thought the seizure was caused by exhaustion.

"After testing, we believe the incident was brought on by simple fatigue. Senator Kennedy is awake, talking with family and friends and feeling well," Edward Aulisi, chairman of the hospital's neurosurgery division, said in a statement.

The seizure cast a somber tone over the usually festive luncheon, held every four years in the Capitol's Statuary Hall after the swearing-in ceremony.

Teresa Heinz Kerry told reporters that her husband and Vicki Kennedy held the senator down to try to keep him from injuring himself before medical personnel arrived. Sen. Kerry said that Kennedy's deteriorating health became of such concern that Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va., 91 and in declining health, became despondent and left the room.

Sen. Daniel Inouye, 84, who was sitting at the same table as Kennedy and Byrd, said he saw no warning signs before Kennedy's seizure. "We were chatting away, he was in a happy mood, regaling us with jokes," Inouye, D-Hawaii, said.

Medical personnel took Kennedy out in a wheelchair, into a room just off the floor of the House, where Kerry and Sens. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, gathered around and then helped him into the ambulance. The senators told reporters afterward that Kennedy was conscious the entire time and spoke to them.

Kennedy's tumor, a malignant glioma, is a common and often lethal form of brain cancer. It was discovered after a May 17 seizure at the family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., on Cape Cod. The tumor is in his brain's left parietal lobe, which is involved in speech, sensation and motor control.

After his June 2 surgery at Duke University Medical Center, Kennedy spent the summer and fall on Cape Cod while receiving treatments at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He briefly returned to the chamber in early July to give Democrats a much-needed vote to pass Medicare pricing legislation. He received a standing ovation upon entering the chamber and, realizing the legislation was on the verge of being approved, nine Republicans switched their votes to side with Kennedy.

See the last 2 pages of this fax and please count the number of cell phone towers - 42 in all- within 1 mile of the office building where you reside and consider the massive amount of microwave radiation they emit that you and other members of Congress are exposed to each day. Brookfield WI. A local resident blames his brain tumor on years of cell phone use.

4/25/09. Paul Mandella, who lives in Brookfield, Wisconsin and has a business in West Allis WI, told me that he is now convinced that his use of a cell phone for the past several years has caused an acoustic neuroma to develop in his left ear. This is the same side on which he has used his cell phone for the past several years. He said the neuroma has caused a partial hearing loss and some loss of balance. He is currently being treated with radiation to shrink the tumor. Paul provided me with a list of persons who belong to the Acoustic Neuroma Association. The organization claims to have 6000 members and has a website at anausa.org. A visit to the website found not a word mentioned about the cause of acoustic neuroma.

Paul gave me a list of over 60 members who are willing to talk and share their experiences with others. I plan to call and converse with a number of these people and will report on my findings in the next issue of JOI.

Swedish study finds a link between long term use of cell phones (10 years of more) and brain tumors

AIM: To evaluate brain tumour risk among long-term users of cellular telephones. METHODS: Two cohort studies and 16 case-control studies on this topic were identified. Data were scrutinized for use of mobile phone for > or =10 years and ipsilateral exposure if presented.

RESULTS: The cohort study was of limited value due to methodological shortcomings in the study. Of the 16 case-control studies, 11 gave results for > or =10 years' use or latency period. Most of these results were based on low numbers.

An association with acoustic neuroma was found in four studies in the group with at least 10 years' use of a mobile phone. No risk was found in one study, but the tumour size was significantly larger among users. Six studies gave results for malignant brain tumours in that latency group. All gave increased odd ratios (OR), especially for ipsilateral exposure. In a meta-analysis, ipsilateral cell phone use for acoustic neuroma was OR = 2.4 (95% CI 1.1 to 5.3) and OR = 2.0, (1.2 to 3.4) for glioma using a tumour latency period of > or =10 years.

CONCLUSIONS: Results from present studies on use of mobile phones for > or =10 years give a consistent pattern of increased risk for acoustic neuroma and glioma. The risk is highest for ipsilateral exposure.

Cooking the books - Industry funding yields favorable study results

Without a complete review of all the published literature, it appears that a gristmill of dozens of studies funded by the mobile phone industry give cell phones a passing grade for safety. Bias could play a role as the research centers are funded by the telecommunications industry. The telecommunications industry has not funded any studies of persons using cell phones 10 years or longer and there is every reason to believe this is deliberate to avoid unfavorable publicity from bad results. The telecommunications industry has figured out what kind of studies would give negative results and avoids funding those studies. A cell phone with a red warning label hat long term use can cause brain cancer is not a good selling point.

If the tobacco industry could get away with it, they would have used short term studies (a year or 2) to show cigarette smoking does not cause lung cancer. If you structure a study just right, an industry can hide the harmful effects of their products by choosing the right participants, a reduced dose and a short time frame ending before adverse effects show up.

You know, arsenic, lead and even asbestos could pass the consumer safety tests under such doctored studies. Medical professionals that accept money for these sham studies should be publicly shamed for their participation in them. If you want some science, chew on the following.

Who will fund studies on the effects of cell phone microwave radiation on these blood parameters?

• a. Oxidative stress
• b. Glutathione levels
• c. Cortisol levels
• d. HGH levels
• e. C - Reactive Protein (CRP) measures inflammation
• f. Sedimentation rate or neopterin levels (to measure the rate of cell destruction)
• g. Beta 2 microglobulin levels (measures rate of cell destruction)
• h. Observe and photograph the effects of cell phone tower radiation on white and red blood cells using dark field microscopsy.
• i. Liver panel tests to measure if cell phone tower radiation damages the liver.
• j. Effects on the eyes. Microwave radiation has already been shown to cause cataracts in rabbits.

We know the telecommunications industry won't fund these or any long term studies. These sewer rats know what kind of studies to avoid. I hope Congress can be jolted into funding these studies and hold public hearing to allow the victims of cell phone radiation to testify in public and on the cable news channel. Letter of Inquiry sent to the FCC

To the Federal Communications Commission

Gentlemen: I am the publisher of a quarterly report called the Journal of Immunity and in the last issue I raised a number of questions about the safety of cell phone towers and the collective effect of multiple cell phone towers on human health within a dense populated area as exists in a city. Although I have diligently searched the database at the National Library of Medicine, I have not located any studies that have measured the biological effects of microwave radiation on blood parameters in humans from a single cell phone tower, let alone 20 or more that are commonly located with 2 to 4 miles of any residence in almost any city.

Specifically I am looking for research in humans and the effects of normal as well as maximum levels of exposure to microwave radiation approved by the FCC exposure on blood parameters that could indicate pre-disease conditions that might develop over time and long term exposure. I have been unable to find answers to my questions from any of the government websites you have listed at the FCC home page.

Specifically I am looking for the effects of cell phone radiation on the following blood parameters - Oxidative stress (free radical produced), Glutathione levels, Cortisol Levels, Thyroid and pancreas function, HGH , C-Reactive Protein, Sedimentation rate, or neopterin levels to measure the rate of cell destruction, bets-2 microglobulin levels, effects of cellphone and cell phone tower emissions of red blood cells under dark field microscopy and liver panel tests.

How can the FCC or any other government agency declare safety standards for cell phones and cell phone tower emissions when this basic research has not been done? A copy of my newsletter is attached. I specifically request that you comment of the photographs done in Germany on the effects of 90 seconds of exposure to a cell phone call on the red blood cells of the individual tested. The photographs show clumping of red blood cells after just 90 seconds of exposure to a single cell phone call. Has any agency of the federal government duplicated this test and what were the results? Should not damage to a persons red blood cells be a cause for concern?

The policy of the FCC with respect to environmental RF emissions has been developed to ensure that FCC-regulated transmitters do not expose the public or workers to levels of RF energy that are considered by expert organizations to be potentially harmful. Since the FCC is not a health and safety agency itself, we must defer to other organizations and agencies with respect to the biological research necessary to determine what levels are safe. In the United States, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), and the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) have issued recommendations for human exposure to RF fields. Both the NCRP and IEEE guidelines were developed by scientists and engineers with extensive experience and knowledge in the area of RF biological effects and related issues. These individuals spent a considerable amount of time evaluating published scientific studies, including studies of the health status of exposed persons, relevant to establishing safe levels for human exposure to RF energy.

The FCC guidelines for human exposure to RF electromagnetic fields are based on recommendations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other federal health and safety agencies. These FCC guidelines were derived from exposure limits recommended by the NCRP and the IEEE mentioned above. (End of rely)

The message from the FCC was blah, blah, blah- we have experts who tell us everything is safe and named several other agencies but provided no information on specific research. The reason is that the specific research I requested has not been done. Toronto's Gardiner Expressway has recently seen a series of looming cell phone towers. These towers have been erected without warning to local downtown workers and nearby residents.

There is also another tower at Finch and Victoria Park about 7 metres from apartment buildings windows that is virtually identical to the Orange Phone Company Tower that has become infamous for reports of accompanying cancer ailments by residents.

England's Orange phone company is being required to remove mobile mast from 'tower of doom', where the cancer rate has soared. A British mobile phone company is to remove a mast from a block of flats after seven residents were struck down by cancer.

Three have died and another four have battled the disease since two masts were erected on the roof of the five-storey block which has become known locally in Britain as the Tower of Doom.

The cancer rate on the top floor -- where residents of five of the eight flats have been affected and the three who died all lived - is 20%, ten times the national average.

Residents of Berkeley House in Staple Hill, Bristol, also complain of terrible headaches and other ailments which they blame on radiation from the masts.

She added: "People of all ages who live and work near the mast will be exposed to the radiation and so there's a lot of anger about it."

How to test your exposure to cell phone and cell phone tower radiation "Electrosmog Detector"

Conrad LeBeau. In March, I purchased an Electrosmog Detector (sensoryperspective.com)that was recommended to me by a reader. This battery operated device is made in England and measures the amount of microwave, radio and TV, WI FI and other sources of microwave radiation in a range from 50 megahertz (MGH) to 3000 MHG. It measures microwave radiation and similar frequencies by converting their levels into a noisy sound volume.

When placed inside a Faraday Cage or any metal container, it makes little or no sound at all as the radio microwaves are blocked. When you get within a few city blocks of a cell phone tower, depending on the number of transmitting antennas. It generates a loud and unbearable screeching noise.

The hand held device is very useful for measuring areas of your home, work environment or neighborhood for the level of exposure to cell phone microwave radiation. It is also useful for research purposes. I learned that aluminum paint or galvanized paint from the local hardware store had no effect at all on stopping microwave radiation. I found that a steel strainer or metal window screen was very effective as was aluminum foil.

I have learned that microwave radiation will pass through any window or wall unless there is an electrical conductor to absorb or reflect the radiation. The least expensive barriers are made of aluminum or steel. More expensive metals like copper, brass and silver are also used in some applications. Ideally, the OHM resistance should be 100 or less. For that reason, products designed primarily to absorb static electricity have a high OHM value (over 100 K OHMS) and do not offer protection against microwave radiation. However, aluminum window screens are very effective in disintegrating cell phone signals and microwave (MW) radiation.

In my house I found a significant amount of MW radiation coming through the ceiling, windows doors and outer walls. On the 1st floor level, virtually none came through the floor. My testing found that the second and third floors or higher elevations have the greater exposure to MW radiation than the first floor. The basement will have the least exposure to MW radiation. If you are moving to a new location in any city, I would advise not only to do a search at antennasearch.com to find all the cell phone towers in your locality, but to move to a basement flat or an aluminum sided home or mobile home and one that preferably also has an aluminum or steel to maximize your protection.

What about Q-link and other highly priced devices marketed as "protective" against cell phone MW radiation?

Recently, I met someone who was wearing a Q-link device and he said he could feel the difference after he placed it around his neck. However, when I tested the Electrosmog Detector near him, the Q-link he was wearing had no noticeable effect on the level of MW radiation. It is possible the Q-link was having a placebo effect.

There are a lot of these products on the market. Unless I see some verifiable scientific demonstration, I am skeptical of all of them. I doubt that a little crystal around my neck wil stop microwave radiation. I know one thing, radio, TV, microwave radiation from cell phone towers and cell phones are trapped by any metal surface that conducts electricity.

What I am doing to reduce exposure to cell phone tower emissions in my own home

During the past winter, I have added insulation to the outer walls of most of my living residence and an adjoining apartment. I used one-half inch thick board insulation that has a layer of aluminum foil on both sides. It is called AP foil Faced Foam Insulation made by Johns Manville (JM).

I tested all the materials I used with an electrical OHM meter and there was good electricity flow - no resistance. The foil backed insulation comes in 4 ft by 8 ft lengths and costs about $10 a sheet. I used both liquid nails and aluminum roofing nails to fasten it to the walls. I removed the trim around the doors and the windows, except for the sill.

I used the aluminum tape to seal the cracks between the sheets of insulation. I plan to finish the wall with one-quarter inch knotty pine. The knotty pine will be flush with the trim around the windows.

In the bedroom, I decided not to use the knotty pine but used one-quarter inch drywall instead to be applied over Reflectix as in the photo. (to locate a local source , go to reflectix.com)

The photo below shows Reflectix on the right. This material is made of bubble-pak with aluminum foil on both sides. I fastened it to the wall with liquid nails and roofing nails. Drywall -one quarter inch thick is nailed over the Reflectix on the left side of the photo. A one-half inch wood spacer is nailed around the window to compensate for the total thickness of the Reflectix plus the drywall.

The ceiling of the bedroom is covered with 4 ft by 8 ft panels of one-half inch thick polyurethane insulating board (John Manvilles brand) and covered on both side with aluminum foil. It is fastened to the ceiling with Locktite construction adhesive and long roofing nails pounded into the wood beam studs.

When the two side walls are finished and painted, a drop ceiling will be put up to cover the aluminum foil insulation boards on the ceiling.

When testing with the Electrosmog Detector I find there has been a very significant decrease in cell phone radiation getting into the bedroom - I would estimate an 80 to 90% reduction even though the aluminum window screens have not yet been installed on the two windows.

Dreams and restful sleep are restored.

The benefits of blocking cell phone tower radiation in my bedroom are profound. I have gone from waking up every 3 or 4 hours to 6 or 7 hours of deep uninterrupted sleep.

When I was young I would always dream in vivid colors. For the past several years here in West Allis, the quality of my sleep has been poor. No dreams, no deep restful sleep. Interrupted sleep was the norm. I often would wake up feeling tired. It is little wonder that I have a poor quality of sleep here. I am surrounded in a sea of electromagnetic pollution - over 20 cell phone towers within 4 miles of my home plus televisions and radio stations as well.

There are also satellites circulating overhead beaming down television, radio and microwave phone signals. This is in addition to the newground broadcasts for high definition television. Since most of us spend 1/3 of each day in bed (1/3 of our life), it is of utmost importance to block out cell phone, wi-fi, radio and TV signals and keep them from interfering with our sleep. It is the stimulation of the nervous system, the adrenals and brain activities from electromagnetic pollution that wakes us up. The number of people who cannot get a good night rest in the United States is reported at over 60 million and growing.

The Electrosmog Detector is the truth serum for the effectiveness of any device, product or method that claims to reduce cell phone microwave radiation. I have tested and had no success with Con-tact brand foil paper.

In Milwaukee, I recently turned on the Electrosmog Detector in an older tavern that had a metal ceiling and was surprised how little microwave radiation entered the building. I would estimate that 80 to 90% of the radiation was blocked.

At this point of observation, It appears that the effects of aluminum foil and aluminum window screens on cell phone signals are slightly different. The foil both absorbs and reflects some of the radiation while the metal screen causes the signals to disintegrate. What is not reflected or grounded is converted into heat. Microwaves passing thorough water are entirely converted into heat energy. This is how a microwave oven cooks food.

A microwave oven could also be used to test the effectiveness of coatings or products to block microwave radiation by coating or wrapping a raw potato with the substance and see if it is still raw after cooking it for 10 minutes in a MW oven. By cooking an untreated raw potato with a treated one, you can quickly find out if the applied coating works.

Because of the phenomenon of electromagnetic pollution, the benefits of diet, dietary supplements and exercise alone can no longer assure good health. Swine Flu emerges in Mexico - spreads rapidly

4/28/09. Cable news, ABC and other stations are reporting today 86 deaths from the Swine flu in Mexieo with 20 cases here in the United States but no deaths. Speculation is that they may be different strains of the same virus. Earlier today, Sec. of Homeland Security Janet Nepolitano declared a medical emergency. Quarantines have been placed in Mexico city and the streets are deserted. Schools and churches are closed. How long can this last? People need to work and buy food and other essentials. A real human crisis is now unfolding.

Newspapers are reporting that the new virus H1N1 is a combination of the bird flu, the swine flu and human flu. The Independent Science out of London www.independent.co.uk reports that:

"The virus responsible for the outbreak in Mexico belongs to a variant of the H1N1 subtype of influenza A. This particular strain of the H1N1 virus has not been previously detected in either pigs or humans, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The H1N1 strain has already caused the biggest pandemic in history - the outbreak of Spanish flu in 1918 which killed an estimated 50 million people.

Readers are urged to review the Journal of Immunity Vol 6 N3 on home remedies for the flu last year that has an extensive article on a wide range of treatment options for the flu and colds. It is important to stock up on an array of anti-virals remedies now and to be prepared in case a pandemic arrives.
